To celebrate Bo's father's retirement, Bo's father is taking us to Shreveport for the next few days. We're about to leave in a few minutes and we'll be back sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening.
I'm really looking forward to just a few days without any hassles. I don't much care for gambling, so I'll find other things to occupy my time. I've packed a couple of books and some magazines as well as my knitting (I've taken up knitting again, did you know?), so even if I just spend the whole time alone in the hotel room, I think I'll be okay. Bo is going to have to spend most of his time with his dad, which saddens me a little but I'm hoping that we can steal a bit of time to ourselves.
And I'm only a little worried about spending a four hour car ride with Bo's father. In truth, I've only spent a few passing minutes with him when I met him for the first time and it was just a casual greeting. I know that I will have to talk to him, because he's legally blind so there isn't anything that he can do to keep himself occupied other than talk. I hope I don't embarrass myself or Bo. I know I can be rather charming at times, but sometimes I try too hard and end up looking like an ass.

As for my heath, I've meant to post about this for awhile but just haven't been able to reign my attention long enough to do so. I'm severely anemic, not diabetic. For those of you who don't know, anemia is a deficiency in the blood of red cells or their hemoglobin, resulting in pallor and weariness. Mine is a result of low iron in the blood. I had to go in for two shots just to get my levels back up to semi-normal and now I have to take supplements for the rest of my life, which I just found out (through a friend, not through personal experience) cause constipation, so I'll have to start taking fiber as well. I'm also supposed to change my diet a bit to eat more foods that will keep me strong and healthy, like spinach and kale, but I haven't really done that yet. It kind of pisses me off that I never learned the proper way to feed myself.

That's really all I got for now. Bo should be here soon and I don't want to have to make them wait. If anything interesting happens on the trip, I'll be sure to post about it. Lates.

Broccoli is also good for iron. In fact, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes and pasta makes a very good, high iron meal. I do it all the time, cos I'm anemic too! Let's start a club.

And spinach enchiladas are always really tasty. So if you ever go out for mexican food, you should order some. Hooray for iron.

Well, good! I'm glad it's "just" anemia and not diabetes. Anemia's better than diabetes, right?

I don't know much of anything about anemia. Is it hereditary, or because something was lacking in your diet? Or both? You say that you'll have to take supplements for the rest of your life, so I guess a change in diet alone won't correct the problem?

I eat raw baby spinach by the bagful, but I'm not a big fan of spinach in any form other than raw.

I hope you have a great time in Shreveport and Bo wins lots of money! I'm kind of sorry you guys are going to be gone--I was hoping maybe the four of us could go out and celebrate this week, and Jenny and I will be headed out Friday evening. Maybe we can do something Thursday evening if you guys are back soon enough and aren't too tired.

I am glad to hear you are all right. They tell me I might be anemic, which might be so...explains the ghostly palor and endless fatigue... but I haven't been one to listen or take care so one word of advice take the vitamins, eat greens, and take care of yourself. Because the world isn't itself without your unique personality gracing its stage. Hugs.
